NARS Sheer Glow – Worth The Hype?

Now it’s fair to say, there is not much avoiding this foundation. Wherever you look, someone is talking about Nars Sheer Glow. Recently I gave in to this temptation and bucked the trend. Here’s what I thought.

This is what NARS says about the foundation on their site:

A glowing, natural radiant finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage that immaculately evens skin tone. Replete with skincare benefits and the NARS Complexion Brightening Formula, it leaves skin hydrated, more luminous, softer and smoother. Used daily, Sheer Glow Foundation improves the skin’s brightness and texture.”

How To Apply NARS Sheer Glow

In my personal opinion, the overall look is flawless, even with my problematic skin. The better your skin, the better this foundation will look for sure. Coverage is completely buildable – in more problematic areas I will tend to use more, but a little certainly goes a long way. This foundation is also amazing for covering any redness or skin imperfections! A full-coverage face can be achieved with about 2 and a half pumps. With this product – a little does certainly go a long way. For anyone wondering, 1 bottle lasted me almost 4 months of daily use (which was surprising.

Everyone has a different method of applying foundation, and there is certainly no right way to do this. Personally, my foundation brush ends up giving a particularly streaky look with Sheer Glow, which could be down to the thick consistency. I don’t know whether it is because my buffing brush is a bit dead, but for me, the result is not particularly even. This is why my method of application with this foundation is definitely a beauty blender, as it achieves a flawless, even look, and super quick; great for early mornings.

Sheer Glow Wearability

I would not say this foundation goes out with the sole aim to glow because is not immediately radiant. Within a couple of hours, the foundation is at its peak and your face will be nice and dewy. If you have a dry/normal skin type then your face will remain this way for another 10 hours easily. However, if you’re like me and have combination skin or oily skin, then within a few hours, blotting or powdering will need to take place, depending on temperature. In hot conditions, the foundation will simply melt off oily parts of the face, so beware. I am sure this can be solved by using a heavy-duty powder of course. To me, the brightening aspect is just a selling point, as I believe that my skin as not improved in brightness or texture. Dry patches also remain dry, with the foundation not hiding or resolving this.

A massive bonus for sure is the excessive range of shades Nars offer. I have always struggled with finding the perfect shade for my skin and NARS have pulled it off. Again, for anyone wondering, I use the shade Barcelona.

So, the overall question, yay or nay? Well here are the pros and cons to consider:

Pros:

1. You get a lot for your money (30ml does go a long way)
2. Extremely buildable coverage
3. Flawless look
4. Practical for day and night
5. The variety of shades means it can cater for everyone

Cons:

1. It is not the cheapest (£31 in the UK)
2. Made for dry to normal skin, because of how dewy and shiny it gets
3. No SPF
4. The annoyance of having to buy a separate pump
6. If you do buy a separate pump – the lid will not fit on the bottle

My Opinion:

Definitely worth a purchase! I will not be changing my foundation routine for a while now, as Sheer Glow is a beautiful product. It is completely understandable why people would buy it; so much so, I have recently bought a new bottle!
