Things I’ve Learned About Blogging From Working In Marketing

Hello! I’m Ashley from hiyaitsashley and Sophia has been kind enough to let me write a guest post for her blog, thanks Sophia! For my guest post I thought I would share with you 3 things that I’ve learned about the blogosphere from working in marketing. Let’s go!

I’ve been working in Marketing for nearly a year now and I’ve been blogging for 6 years come September. In that time I’ve learned a lot about blogging and about the blogging community in general, but over the past year I’ve learned some things from the inside that I found interesting and wanted to share with you.

Blogs Reach Every Genre

I always knew that blogging was super diverse before, but I never realised quite the real reach it had until I started working in Outreach. I work mostly with business and finance clients and even then the subcategories of blogs you have are insane.

I’ve worked with finance blogs, debt blogs, savings blogs, investments blogs you name it. I’ve seen entire blogs dedicated to certain types of baking or cookery, blogs for certain towns or types of car or house.

You really can find blogs for even the most obscure niche and I personally think that is incredible, there’s something so wholesome about being able to find groups of people who are interested in the same things, even the niches of subjects.

Bloggers Can Make A Lot Of Money

One of the things I’ve noticed is that bloggers can make a lot of money if they meet the right criteria. From sponsored posts to link insertions or paid guest posts, there are a lot of possibilities.

For example, some blogs can charge anywhere from £50 to £200+ for one single guest post on their sight with a client link and some sites do this multiple times a week.

Now, this is of course dependant on the type of blog your run, your DA or how many social followers etc you have – essential how valuable you are to that client. Yet, so many bloggers are either over or underpricing their value.

So Many Bloggers Don’t Properly Understand SEO

If you’ve been blogging for any length of time or you just know about the world of Google, then you’ll understand how important SEO is for bloggers to improve their DA and their visibility in the SERPs, even if it’s just a hobby.

So many blogs I’ve seen though still don’t understand the importance of improving on-page SEO to help with their search results and to boost their DA. I also don’t think many bloggers understand the uses of different types of link and how these can really affect whether, their site performs well, or looks spammy when it is run by someone in marketing.

There are so many tools we use to determine whether to work with a blogger and no, it’s not all about DA. So often websites and blogs come back as spam and it’s only through silly little SEO mistakes!

These are just a few of the things I’ve learned about blogging from working in marketing. If you want to learn more about blogging and marketing you can find me talking about them over on my blog and you’ll find me on Twitter – @hiyaitashley and Instagram – @_hiyaitsashley if you want to say hi!
